WHAT TO WEAR FOR BRANDING PHOTOS

How to feel confident, represent your brand, & look fabulous

Branding photos are a great way to show off your personality, create emotional engagement with your target audience, and help your audience get to know you, among other things. One of the most common concerns my clients share is what to wear for branding photos. I can totally relate – I am not the biggest fan of being in front of the camera, and when I have to prepare for a photo session I tend to agonize just a little bit over wardrobe choices. I’ve found some simple ways to reduce the overwhelm and anxiety about preparing for your branding session.

My #1 rule – wear something that makes you feel CONFIDENT.

We can plan the whole session around making sure you feel as fabulous as you look. Like my friend and podcast co-host, Sarah Madras. When we spoke about her branding session, she asked if she could wear a Greek goddess costume (to channel the strength and femininity of Diana and Athena). She went in search of an outfit that captured the vibe without the golden bow and arrow. She found something that made her feel like a warrior princess that would also show her as confident and professional.

WEAR YOUR BRAND COLORS

Whether it’s a shirt, jacket, scarf, or jewelry, incorporating your brand colors will make your photo galleries cohesive and consistent. Sadie Harper is an interior designer and purple is at the center of her brand colors. She chose to incorporate purple during her branding session with her clothing, and it draws the eye as well as supports her overall brand using a color from her logo.

COMPLIMENT THE LOCATION

You want to make sure you are the center of the photos and that the location doesn’t take away from you just being fabulous. Sarah is a realtor, and we chose a model home for her location. She chose yellow as her accent color and wore this gorgeous cardigan. It stands out from the surroundings as well as compliments the neutral tones of the porch and background.

PLAY UP YOUR SIGNATURE THING

If you have a signature style, or look, or something that stands out as “THIS IS ME!”, use it. Jamie is also a realtor and her signature thing is leopard print. Not only do we choose wardrobe options that incorporate leopard, we also choose wardrobe options that compliment the props she wants to use in her photos, like this fabulous sign.

MATCHING IS ENCOURAGED!

Sometimes when we do brand sessions, we showcase teams and families. In that case, it’s important to remember to select clothes not just for you, but for the other people in the picture. Carolyn Byrd is an author, speaker, health coach and massage therapist for both people AND horses. Part of her brand is talking about work/family harmony and self-care, so we did a portion of her session at her home. We selected outfits that worked well for her as well as for the three of them together.

Choosing what to wear for branding photos can feel less stressful than you might anticipate. Using some simple planning techniques can help you feel less anxious and THAT means you and I have more fun together on the day of your brand photo session.
